The Story

1. 🌟 In 1979, Venu Srinivasan took charge as managing director of Sundaram-Clayton, setting a course that would transform TVS Motor Company amid severe labor strikes and financial losses. 2. In the late 1980s, he shut down TVS factory for three months to break prolonged strikes, then introduced Japanese Total Quality Management (TQM) techniques, overhauling plant machinery and processes. 3. 🎯 By 2001, after ending TVS’s partnership with Suzuki, Srinivasan launched the TVS Victor, India’s first indigenously produced four-stroke motorcycle, marking a bold move into independent manufacturing. 4. Under his leadership, Sundaram-Clayton’s brakes division won the Deming Prize in 1998, followed by TVS Motor Company winning the same prestigious quality award in 2002—the first two-wheeler company worldwide to do so. 5. 🏆 Venu Srinivasan became the first Indian industrialist awarded the Deming Distinguished Service Award in 2019 for his pioneering promotion of TQM beyond India’s borders. 6. Beyond industry, in 2022 he was appointed non-official director on the Reserve Bank of India’s Central Board, linking his industrial insight to national financial governance. 7. 🌿 He founded Srinivasan Services Trust, impacting over 2,500 Indian villages with programs for women, water conservation, and environmental preservation, blending business success with social outreach. 8. ❓ What drove Venu Srinivasan to risk a three-month factory shutdown and how did this gamble reshape India’s two-wheeler manufacturing landscape?
