Triloki Nath Khoshoo (1927-2002) was an Indian environmental scientist and administrator. He started his professional career as the co-founder of the Department of Botany that moved to Khalsa College, Amritsar, soon after the partition of India.

In 1947, amid the upheaval of Partition, Triloki Nath Khoshoo co-founded the Department of Botany that relocated to Khalsa College, Amritsar, marking his entry into India’s post-independence scientific rebuilding.

🌱 By 1964, Khoshoo had joined the National Botanical Gardens in Lucknow as Assistant Director, where under Kailas Nath Kaul’s mentorship, he transformed it into the National Botanical Research Institute by 1978.
3🌿 In 1982, Khoshoo was appointed Secretary of India’s newly created Department of Environment in Indira Gandhi’s cabinet, tasked with crafting the country’s first proactive environmental policies.
4📚 Over five decades, he authored more than 250 research papers and wrote seven books, including his 1996 work 'Mahatma Gandhi: An Apostle of Applied Human Ecology', which linked Gandhian philosophy with contemporary ecological challenges.

Despite his administrative roles, Khoshoo disliked bureaucratic work and preferred engaging directly with research and people, from gardeners to visiting scientists, at the National Botanical Research Institute in Lucknow during the 1970s and 80s.
