Swami Tejomayananda Saraswati, also known as Pujya Guruji and born Sudhakar Kaitwade, is an Indian spiritual leader. He was head of Chinmaya Mission from 1994 to 2017, until he was succeeded by Swami Swaroopananda in 2017.

The Story

In 1970, Sudhakar Kaitwade, a physics master’s student in Bhopal, attended Swami Chinmayananda’s Bhagavad Gita talks, sparking a drastic shift from science to spirituality that led him to join Chinmaya Mission’s Vedanta course in Mumbai.

🌕 On 21 October 1983, during a full moon night, he was initiated into sannyasa by Swami Chinmayananda and received the name Swami Tejomayananda, marking his formal entry as a renunciate monk.
3As Acharya of Sandeepany Sadhanalaya in Mumbai (1983–1989), he taught two consecutive residential Vedanta courses in English, shaping a generation of Vedanta students with his clarity and humor.
4🌍 Between 1989 and 1993, he served as Acharya at Chinmaya Mission’s San Jose center in California, bringing traditional Vedantic teachings to Western audiences while honing his multilingual fluency.
