The Story

1
🎙️ In 1939, at just 16 years old, Talat Mahmood began singing ghazals on All India Radio Lucknow, marking the start of his unique vocal journey with poetic renditions of Daag and Mir.
2
In 1944, his ghazal "Tasveer teri dil mera behela na sakegi" sold over 100,000 copies, propelling him from Lucknow to the bustling film industry of Calcutta where he also performed under the pseudonym "Tapan Kumar".
3🌆 By 1949, Talat moved to Bombay and gained his first big Bollywood break with the haunting song "Ae dil mujhay aisi jaga le chal" composed by Anil Biswas for the film Arzoo (1950).
4Despite acting in about 16 films during the 1940s and 1950s, including regional hits in Calcutta, Talat's acting career never matched the acclaim of his singing and was later deemed to have hindered his playback opportunities.
