In 1942, as Japanese bombs rained down on Rangoon, Swami Ranganathananda chose to flee on foot with thousands of refugees, rejecting safer transport options, trekking through perilous conditions to reach India and save the Ramakrishna Mission’s presence there.

🕉️ Born in 1908 in a small Kerala village, Shankaran Kutty’s monastic journey began as a teenager when he joined Mysore’s Ramakrishna Order in 1926, starting from humble chores before being initiated as a monk in 1933 by Swami Shivananda, a direct disciple of Ramakrishna.
3As head of the Karachi centre from 1942 to 1948, his spiritual discourses captivated diverse audiences, including a young L.K. Advani and even Pakistan’s founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah, who reportedly said after hearing him speak on Islam, “Now I know how a true Muslim should be.”
4📚 Between 1962 and 1967, Swami Ranganathananda transformed the Kolkata Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture by directing its School of Humanistic and Cultural Studies and editing its monthly journal, merging spirituality with intellectual rigor.
