Sushanta Kumar Bhattacharyya, Baron Bhattacharyya, was a British-Indian engineer, educator and government advisor. In 1980, he became Professor of Manufacturing Systems at the University of Warwick and founded the Warwick Manufacturing Group. In 2004, he was made a life peer and became a member of the House of Lords.

In 1940, Sushanta Kumar Bhattacharyya was born into a Bengali Brahmin zamindar family in Dhaka, then part of British India, marking the start of a life bridging Indian academia and British industry.

🌟 After moving with his family to Kharagpur in 1952, he graduated with a BTech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1960, a critical step before relocating to Britain for advanced studies.
3Between 1961 and 1970, Bhattacharyya worked at Lucas Industries in the UK and earned both an MSc and a PhD in engineering production from the University of Birmingham, combining industrial experience with academic research.
4In 1980, with backing from Warwick's Vice-Chancellor Jack Butterworth, he founded the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), aiming to revive British manufacturing through academia-industry partnerships.
