Satyanarayan Gangaram Pitroda, popularly known as Sam Pitroda, is an Indian official, telecommunications engineer, innovator, and entrepreneur. He was born in Titlagarh, in the eastern Indian state of Odisha, into a Gujarati family. He served as an advisor to Rajiv Gandhi and Manmohan Singh during their respective tenures as the Prime Minister of India, as well as to the United Nations. He is the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress.

📞 In 1981, frustrated by the difficulty of calling his family from Chicago to India, Sam Pitroda ( @sampitroda ) resolved to transform India's outdated telecom infrastructure, sparking the country's telecom revolution. 2. 🇮🇳 By 1984, upon invitation from Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Pitroda returned to India, renounced his US citizenship, and founded C-DOT, a telecom research center that developed indigenous digital switching technology. 3. 💡 In 1975, before his India return, Pitroda invented the electronic diary, a precursor to portable computing devices, while working at GTE in Chicago. 4. 📚 Between 2005 and 2009, he chaired India's National Knowledge Commission, advising Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on public information infrastructure, aiming to integrate innovation across governance. 5. 🌿 In 1993, Pitroda co-founded the Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Tradition near Bangalore to preserve and promote Ayurveda and traditional Indian medicinal knowledge. 6. ⚖️ Despite his technological achievements, in April 2025, the Enforcement Directorate filed charges against him related to the National Herald case, marking a controversial phase in his career. 7. ❓ How did a man who never owned a telephone until age 22 become the architect of India’s telecom revolution and influence policy from Indira Gandhi to Manmohan Singh?
