The Story
1
In 1956, in the rural expanse between Hulikal and Kudur villages in Karnataka, Saalumarada Thimmakka and her husband began planting 10 banyan saplings along a barren 4.5-kilometre stretch of highway, a stretch that would soon turn green under their care.

🌱 Over the next three years, their tree count grew from 10 to 45, with Thimmakka personally carrying four pails of water for four kilometres each day to nurture the saplings, fencing them with thorny shrubs to protect from cattle.
