Kelekar was a participant in the Indian freedom movement, Goa's liberation movement, and later the campaign against the merger of the newly formed Goa with Maharashtra. He played a key role in the founding of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal, which led the literary campaign for the recognition of Konkani as a full-fledged language, and its reinstatement as the state language of Goa.

Ravindra Kelekar’s translation of the Bhagavad Gita into Portuguese was done by his father, Dr. Rajaram Kelekar, linking his family deeply to Konkani and Goa’s linguistic heritage.
1. 🌟 In 1946, as a student at Lyceum High School in Panaji, Ravindra Kelekar joined the Goa liberation movement, meeting leaders like Ram Manohar Lohia and discovering the mobilizing power of the Konkani language.
2. In 1949, Kelekar moved to Wardha to study under Gandhian Kakasaheb Kalelkar, immersing himself in Gandhian philosophy until 1955 before briefly serving as librarian at the Gandhi Memorial Museum in New Delhi.
