Rahul Sankrityayan was an Indian author, essayist, playwright, historian, and scholar of Buddhism who wrote in Hindi and Bhojpuri. Known as the "father of Hindi travel literature", Sankrityayan played a pivotal role in giving Hindi travelogue a literary form. He was one of the most widely travelled scholars of India, spending forty-five years away from his home, exploring regions such as Russia, Tibet, China, and Central Asia.

The Story

In 1910, Rahul Sankrityayan left his home in Pandaha village, Uttar Pradesh, to undertake pilgrimages across the Western Himalayas, visiting Haridwar, Rishikesh, Badrinath, and Kedarnath to study Vedanta, defying his grandfather's wishes.

๐ŸŒ By 1932, after extensive travels in Tibet, he published 'Tibbat Mein Sawa Varsh,' marking the beginning of his role as the father of Hindi travel literature and showcasing his firsthand experiences in the region.
3Fluent in around 30 languages including Sanskrit, Pali, Tibetan, Russian, Arabic, and Hindi, Sankrityayan chose Hindi as his primary literary medium, producing over 100 books on diverse subjects like Indology, Buddhism, and Communism.
4๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ In 1926, following his release from British imprisonment, he took a teaching assignment in Sri Lanka where he studied Pali and restored ancient Buddhist texts, adopting the name Rahul Sankrityayan during this period.
