The Dagar vani is a tradition of the classical dhrupad genre of Hindustani classical music spanning 20 generations, tracing back to Swami Haridas, and including Behram Khan of Jaipur (1753-1878). For some generations its members were associated with the courts of Jaipur, Udaipur, and Mewar.

In 1927, Rahim Fahimuddin Dagar was born in Alwar, Rajasthan, into the Dagar family that traced its musical lineage back 19 generations to Swami Haridas, embedding him within centuries of Dhrupad tradition.

At age five, in 1932, he began rigorous training under his uncle Ustad Nasiruddin Khan Dagar, embarking on a 35-year disciplined study covering 52 alankaars, Nฤda yoga, and Sanskrit, integrating spiritual and musical sciences.
