The Story
1. 🌟 In 1943, N. H. Wadia entered Grant Medical College, Bombay, setting foot in a medical world where neurology was still an uncharted territory in India.
2. By 1956, Wadia was working under Lord Brain at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London, immersing himself in the cutting-edge neurological research of the time.
3. Returning to India in 1957, he took on the role of Honorary Assistant Neurologist at Grant Medical College, eventually leading the neurology department at Sir J. J. Group of Hospitals for 25 years until 1982.
4. 📚 In 1973, Wadia became Director of Neurology at Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre, a position he held while continuing to influence neurological practices across Mumbai.
5. Wadia's clinical eye identified and described a new form of spinocerebellar degeneration with slow eye movements, later recognized globally as SCA 2, marking a neurological condition previously unknown to science.
6. 🧠 In 1993, the World Federation of Neurology awarded him a Certificate of Appreciation for his services, reflecting his influence beyond Indian borders.
7. 🏅 In 2013, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan, acknowledging decades of pioneering neurology work in post-independence India.
