Rai Bahadur Mohan Singh Oberoi was an Indian businessman and politician. Oberoi was the founder and chairman of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts, India's second-largest hotel company, with 31 hotels in India, Egypt, Indonesia, UAE, Mauritius and Saudi Arabia. Oberoi was also active in politics and was a member of both houses of the Parliament of India during his political career.

In 1922, Mohan Singh Oberoi started as a front desk clerk at The Cecil Hotel in Shimla with a monthly salary of Rs. 50, a modest beginning that set the stage for his future empire.

🌟 By 1934, he had mortgaged his wife’s jewelry and assets to acquire Clarkes Hotel, transforming it into a luxury destination and paying off his debts within five years.
3During World War II, Oberoi secured British troops’ accommodation in Calcutta at affordable rates, which enabled him to fund the acquisition of the Grand Hotel despite its contaminated water problems.
4In 1943, he gained controlling interest in Associated Hotels of India, bringing iconic properties like The Cecil, Maidens, and The Imperial under his management, although a lease battle later cost him The Imperial.
