In 1960, Meghnad Desai left Vadodara for the University of Pennsylvania, completing his PhD in economics just three years later, by 1963, at the age of 23, an extraordinary feat for an Indian scholar of his time.

🌍 By 1965, Desai began lecturing at the London School of Economics, where over nearly four decades he taught courses ranging from Marxian economics to econometrics, influencing generations of economists.
3📚 In 1973, he published his first book, Marxian Economic Theory, marking the start of a prolific writing career that included over 200 academic articles and a critique of monetarism in 1981’s Testing Monetarism.
4🎓 Between 1990 and 1995, Desai led LSE’s Development Studies Institute and from 1992 to 2003, he directed LSE Global Governance, shaping academic approaches to global economic policy.
