Through the Years

Mansur’s tutelage under Manji Khan lasted only about a year and a half until Manji Khan’s untimely death, after which Mansur sought further guidance directly from Manji Khan’s father Alladiya Khan, who recommended training under Bhurji Khan.

During his career, Mansur was music director at His Master's Voice and later an advisor at All India Radio’s Dharwad station, playing a critical role in recording and broadcasting classical music in mid-century India.

In 2013, All India Radio archives released a five-CD collection titled 'Akashvani Sangeet' featuring Mansur’s rare 'Vachana Gayana' performances, highlighting his versatility beyond khyal singing.

Mallikarjun Mansur’s dedication to rare ragas and the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana enriched the Hindustani classical repertoire, preserving numerous uncommon melodies for future generations. His role at All India Radio Dharwad helped popularize classical music across India’s airwaves, influencing both listeners and upcoming musicians. The memorial and centenary festival at his birthplace Mansur village continue to inspire classical music appreciation in Karnataka and beyond.
