Pandit Mallikarjun Bheemaraayappa Mansur, was a Hindustani classical singer from Karnataka. He sang in the khyal genre and belonged to the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana.

🎭 At age 9 in Mansur village near Dharwad, young Mallikarjun Mansur performed in a theatre troupe owned by his brother Basavaraj, revealing an early flair for music within dramatic arts in the 1920s.

Under the guidance of Carnatic vocalist Pandit Appaya Swamy and later Nilkanth Bua Alurmath of the Gwalior gharana, Mansur transitioned from Carnatic to Hindustani classical traditions by the late 1920s.
3🎼 Around 1928, Mansur began rigorous training under Jaipur-Atrauli gharana patriarch Alladiya Khan and his sons Manji Khan and later Bhurji Khan, who shaped his distinctive khyal style.
4Mansur mastered over a dozen rare ragas including Shuddh Nat, Kabir Bhairav, and Sampoorna Malkauns, often performing complex improvisations that balanced melody, rhythm, and emotional depth throughout his career.

🔍 One thing most people don't know

🌍HISTORICAL IMPACT

Mansur’s tutelage under Manji Khan lasted only about a year and a half until Manji Khan’s untimely death, after which Mansur sought further guidance directly from Manji Khan’s father Alladiya Khan, who recommended training under Bhurji Khan.

During his career, Mansur was music director at His Master's Voice and later an advisor at All India Radio’s Dharwad station, playing a critical role in recording and broadcasting classical music in mid-century India.
