Performed and preserved the classical Kathakali art form for over seven decades in Kerala.

He was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2011. He taught the Kaplingadan style of Kathakali performance and was also one of the last practitioners of the south Kerala style (Kaplingadan) school of the classical dance-drama.

๐ŸŽญ In 1939, at the age of 10, Madavoor Vasudevan Nair debuted in Kathakali with the dual roles of Bhanumathi and Utharan in the play Utharaswayamvaram, under the tutelage of Madavoor Parameswaran Pillai.

From 1968 to 1978, he served as an instructor of the Kaplingadan style of Kathakali at Kerala Kalamandalam, shaping a generation of performers in this south Kerala tradition.
