Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, also referred to by his initials, MV, was an Indian civil engineer, administrator, and statesman, who served as the 19th Dewan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918.

In 1885, Visvesvaraya began his engineering career as an assistant engineer in Bombay’s Public Works Department, quickly making an impact with his technical skills.

🌊 By 1903, he patented and installed an innovative automatic weir floodgate at Khadakvasla Dam near Pune, a system that allowed reservoirs to safely store water at maximum levels without damaging the dam.
3In 1912, he became the 19th Dewan of Mysore, where he spearheaded industrial growth and modern infrastructure projects, earning the title “the maker of modern Mysore.”
4🚂 Under his administration, Mysore saw the establishment of the State Bank of Mysore and significant expansion of road networks, including plans for the Tirumala-Tirupati route.
