1. In 1957, Mahesh Neelkanth Buch joined the Indian Administrative Service in the Madhya Pradesh cadre, marking the start of decades influencing urban planning and governance.
2. 🌆 By the late 1970s, Buch was pivotal in shaping modern Bhopal, overseeing urban development projects that transformed the cityscape and infrastructure.
3. At Princeton University during 1967–68, Buch was the Parvin Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School, an experience that broadened his approach to urban and environmental policy.
4. 🏛️ After retiring from government service in 1984 as Principal Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, Buch founded the National Centre for Human Settlements and Environment in Bhopal to promote sustainable settlement development.
5. Buch held influential roles such as Vice Chairman of Delhi Development Authority and Director General of the National Institute of Urban Affairs, impacting urban policy at national levels.
6. 🏙️ He chaired committees overseeing heritage zones like Mehrauli and the Lutyens Bungalow Zone, blending urban growth with conservation efforts.
7. In 2011, the Government of India awarded Buch the Padma Bhushan for his urban planning and environmental work, recognizing decades of shaping Indian cities.
