Khusro Faramurz Rustamji, better known as K. F. Rustamji, was the only police officer in India thus far to have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award. This award has been in recognition of his multifarious achievements, including the Public Interest Litigation (PIL).

1. 🌟 In 1936, Khusro Faramurz Rustamji topped Nagpur University in M.Sc Zoology and soon taught at Science College before joining the Indian Police Service in 1938 from Central Provinces and Berar.

2. In August 1942, as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Nagpur, Rustamji faced life-threatening riots during the Quit India Movement and earned the Indian Police Medal for his courageous handling of the unrest.

3. From December 1947, he managed the complex integration of the princely states like Raigarh and Sarangarh into the Indian Union, a task requiring delicate negotiation and law enforcement in the aftermath of independence.

4. 🚨 In 1948, Rustamji actively participated in the Hyderabad Police Action against the Nizam’s resistance to joining India, marking a critical moment in the nation’s consolidation.

5. By 1960, as Inspector General of Madhya Pradesh Police, he took on the notorious Chambal dacoits, including the infamous Gabbar Singh gang, dismantling violent outlaw networks that terrorized the region.

6. 🚧 In 1965, Rustamji founded the Border Security Force, starting with 25 battalions and growing it to over 60,000 troops by his retirement, shaping one of India’s key paramilitary forces.
