H. (Hanumanthappa) Narasimhaiah ; 6 June 1920 – 31 January 2005) was an Indian physicist, educator, writer, freedom fighter and rationalist from Karnataka. Publicly known as "HN", he was the Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University and the president of the National Education Society. He was conferred the Padma Bhushan award by the Government of India in 1984.

1. In 1935, a young Hosur Narasimhaiah walked 85 km over two days from his village Hale Upparahalli to Bangalore, joining the National High School in Basavanagudi, marking his entry into formal education beyond eighth standard. 2. 🌟 In 1936, Narasimhaiah served as an interpreter for Mahatma Gandhi during a visit to his school, an event that deeply influenced him to adopt Gandhism and later join the Quit India movement in 1942, leading to his arrest and imprisonment for nine months. 3. Completing his MSc in 1946, he taught physics at National College, Bangalore, until 1957, before moving to Ohio State University where he earned a PhD in nuclear physics in 1960, specializing in the radioactive decay of hafnium and thulium isotopes. 4. 🚩 As Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University from 1972 to 1977, Narasimhaiah established the 'Committee to Investigate Miracles and Other Verifiable Superstitions,' challenging the miraculous claims of figures like Sathya Sai Baba and publicly questioning godmen's supernatural feats. 5. He led a Karnataka Legislative Council inquiry into the black magic curse 'banamathi,' conclusively disproving the existence of such supernatural claims and promoting scientific temper in the region. 6. 🌐 Founder of the Bangalore Science Forum and Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat, Narasimhaiah championed scientific skepticism and rationalism, becoming the only Indian elected Fellow of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal. 7.
