Govind Nihalani is an Indian film director, cinematographer, screenwriter and producer, known for his works in Hindi cinema, particularly the movement of parallel cinema. He has been the recipient of six National Film Awards, and five Filmfare Awards.

In 1947, at the age of 7, Govind Nihalaniโ€™s family fled Karachi amid the Partition violence, eventually settling in Udaipur where he developed a passion for still photography.

๐ŸŽฅ After graduating in cinematography in 1962 from Shree Jaya Chamrajendra Polytechnic, Bangalore, Nihalani apprenticed under legendary cameraman V. K. Murthy for nearly a decade, absorbing technical mastery.
3In 1971, Nihalani debuted as cinematographer with the Marathi film Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe, also serving as co-producer, marking his entry into independent film work.
