In 1944, at just 13 years old, Dominique Lapierre traveled to the U.S. with his diplomat father and became a paperboy for the New Orleans Item, sparking his lifelong passion for writing and adventure.

🌍 By 1952, Lapierre had hitchhiked over 20,000 miles across the United States on just thirty dollars, painting mailboxes and washing windows to fund his journey, which led to his first bestseller, A Dollar for a Thousand Kilometers.
3At 21, Lapierre married a fashion editor in New York City Hall and embarked on a year-long honeymoon journey that took him from Japan to India in a 1937 Chrysler convertible, living on the edge with only $300.
4In the 1960s, he met Larry Collins at the SHAPE headquarters in Paris, and together they co-authored Is Paris Burning?, a detailed account of the liberation of Paris during World War II, blending historical research with human stories.
