Chandrashekhara Basavanneppa Kambara is a prominent Indian poet, playwright, folklorist, film director in Kannada language and the founder-vice-chancellor of Kannada University in Hampi also president of the Sahitya Akademi, country's premier literary institution, after Vinayak Krishna Gokak (1983) and U.R. Ananthamurthy (1993). He is known for effective adaptation of the North Karnataka dialect of the Kannada language in his plays, and poems, in a similar style as in the works of D.R. Bendre.

🌾 Born on January 2, 1937, in the village of Ghodageri in Belgaum district, Kambara grew up absorbing the folk arts and rituals of North Karnataka, shaping his distinctive literary voice.

🎭 In 1974, Kambara completed his PhD on "Uttara Karnatakada Janapad Rangbhumi" at Karnataka University, Dharwad, pioneering scholarly work on North Karnataka's folk theatre.
3✍️ Throughout the 1980s, he revolutionized Kannada literature by integrating the North Karnataka dialect into his plays and poems, echoing the linguistic style of D.R. Bendre but with a regional authenticity rarely seen.
4In 1991, Kambara received the Sahitya Akademi Award for his play "Sirisampige," a work blending folklore, mythology, and contemporary issues with the raw dialect of his homeland.
