The Story

1

2
🌟 Born in 1909 in a Baidya family in Potoldanga, Kolkata, her father Harendra Nath Gupta was a renowned furniture designer, while her mother Sarola Sundari’s voracious reading habit transformed their home at 157/1B Acharya Prafulla Chandra Road into a rare sanctuary for women’s literary education.
3From 1938 onwards, Ashapoorna shifted her writing focus from children's literature, publishing her first book "Chhoto Thakurder Kashi Yatra," to novels and short stories that critically examined the social constraints placed on women, though she distanced herself from Western feminism.
4🏆 In 1976, she became one of the very few Indian women writers awarded the Jnanpith Award for her novelistic work, alongside the Padma Shri, signaling official recognition of her literary depth and social critique.
