Mirza Jafar Ali Khan, better known as Asar Lakhnavi, was an Urdu poet, civil servant, critic, scholar, writer, translator who belonged from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He wrote Urdu ghazals and nazms under the pen name (takhallus) "Asar".

In 1885, Mirza Jafar Ali Khan was born in the Katra Abu Tarab neighborhood of Lucknow, a place steeped in the Persianate traditions of Awadh, setting the stage for his unique literary voice.
