Co-founded HCL Technologies, a pioneering Indian IT company established in 1976.

Ajai Chowdhry is one of the six founding members of HCL. He is currently the Chairman-Board of Governors at National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT), Ranchi, International Institute of Information Technology, and Naya Raipur. Chowdhry is also a member of India Semiconductor Mission's advisory board.

In 1976, Ajai Chowdhry co-founded HCL along with five others with a bold vision to build India’s own microcomputer, starting a movement that would lay the foundation for the Indian IT industry.

🌏 During the 1980s, Chowdhry spearheaded HCL’s first overseas expansion, establishing operations in Singapore, marking one of the earliest Indian IT footprints outside the country.
3In 1999, he became Chairman of HCL Infosystems, leading the company from a turnover of Rs. 400.6 crores in 1994 to over Rs. 11,542 crores by the early 2000s, transforming it into a key information-enabling powerhouse in India.
4📚 Ajai introduced the concept of “fractals,” short interdisciplinary courses in arts, humanities, and sciences at Indian Institutes of Information Technology, aiming to produce engineers skilled not just in coding but in creative leadership.
